Firefighter & Crusader Larry Dewald dies

Larry Dewald was hard to miss.

If you’ve ever been to the Kentucy State Fair, New Albany’s Harvest Homecoming, the Christmas Gift & Decor Show or countless other festivals across Kentuckiana, you’ve probably seen Larry manning a booth for the WHAS Crusade for Children.

Larry passed away Saturday, September 14, 2103 at his home. He was 60.

For many years, Larry had the blessing of Okolona Fire Department to organize raffles, set up booths and sell tickets all to benefit the Crusade. His partner in these fund and fun-raising events was fellow OFD firefighter Stan Ferguson who knew Larry for nearly 40 years.

Greeting you with a “What’s going on bubba?” or “Hey baby,” Larry was always at the ready to help the Crusade. For many years, he could be seen on the first Saturday in June reporting donations and raffle winners on the annual WHAS Crusade for Children telethon on WHAS11 and 84WHAS.

Larry’s contributions to the Crusade and our everyday lives will be missed.
