On Sunday, August 30 a motorcycle poker run in memory of Ken Peting was held with proceeds going to the Crusade for Children. Organizer Reta Davis submitted this nice summary.

KEN PETING MEMORIAL POKER RUN
August 30, 2009

It was a great day for a ride! Low 70’s, 80 mile motorcycle ride and food provided by B. and W. BBQ and Catering.

On Sunday August 30th approximately 35 bikes and a great group of people gathered at the Simpsonville Fire Department, Station #1. Their purpose was a memorial run for Ken Peting, a veteran and owner of Peting heating and cooling for 30 years. Ken was also very active in the Simpsonville Fire Department and Crusade for Children often driving house to house to raise money.

Tragically, on June 16, 2008, while donating his time and parts to fix an AC unit for someone in need, Ken passed away of a heart attack. In his memory, we put on an annual poker run to raise money for the charity he cared so much about. This year we were able to raise $483.00 to donate to the Crusade, in his name.

Special thanks go to the members of Kentucky Motorcycle Association/K.B.A. District #18. They are as follows; Sergeant of Arms Billy Roby (route and blocker organizer), Vice Director Sean Arms, Lori Costello, Dale Hundley, Danny King, Mark Williams, Wade Zinsmiester, Charlie Kennady, Todd & Theresa Winters, Treasurer Karissa Arms with their Aussie Maverick.

With the KMA’s help next year we are expecting even more bikes, more fun and a larger donation. Our goals are 100 bikes and at least $1000 to donate Keep an eye out for fliers on your favorite web sites and bike shops by early spring.

THANKS TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED THIS YEAR. SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!

Reta Davis (Run Organizer)
