When members of a local car club heard that this year’s WHAS Crusade for Children show was going to be a ticketed event, they decided to help the Crusade and the community.

The British Sports Car Club of Louisville has decided to donate the amount of money it will cost to buy all the tickets.

That’s right — these sports car enthusiasts have stepped up to make the June 5th Crusade concert from the Kentucky Center’s Bomhard Theater a FREE event.

Bill Tilford is a member of the British Sports Car Club.

“What we’re trying to do is help it out and at the same time that money won’t go to a band or go to anything else,” Tilford told WHAS11 News. “100 percentof the money that we donate will go to the Crusade.”

If you’d like to get your free tickets to the Crusade concert, call the Crusade office at (502) 582-7706.

The 57th annual WHAS Crusade for Children will be held Saturday, June 5th and Sunday, June 6th.

The big Crusade concert is Crusade Saturday, June 5, 2010, at 8:00pm.

The show, featuring the Marlins, starts at 7:00 p.m. at the Kentucky Center’s Bomhard Theater.

$133 million raised for special needs children

In its first 56 years, the Crusade has raised more than $133 million. Thanks to generous contributions of goods and services, the Crusade is able to return 100 percent of all donations to organizations that serve special needs children in all 120 Kentucky counties and more than 50 southern Indiana counties. Fire departments raise more than 50 percent of the money each year by staging road blocks and other events.

Melissa Swan and Terry Meiners co-host

Meet the Marlins

You’ve never heard a group of entertainers quite like THE MARLINS! These four brothers – GARY, JACE, RICK and ROBERT – have been performing together for over 25 years for conventions, fairs, festivals, and corporate events in the U.S. and Canada. Recently they have enjoyed great success at Casino Aztar in Evansville, Indiana, the Resorts Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and the Nugget Hotel and Casino in Reno, Nevada. They have shared the stage with such luminaries as Lee Greenwood, The Smothers Brothers, Randy Travis, The Association, Merv Griffin, and others. Their list of corporate clients includes Phillip Morris USA, IBM, Ford Motor Co., Miles, Inc., the National Recreation and Park Association, and the National Education Association. Singing the U.S. and Canadian National Anthems at Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami for the Florida Marlins’ historic inaugural baseball season was a special honor.

They play it all!

THE MARLINS’ repertoire covers the entire musical spectrum including country, rock, big band, pop, classical, jazz, and bluegrass. Whether it’s a show, dance, or quiet dinner music, they feel right at home – in short, music for any occasion or age group. A MARLIN concert might include music from such diverse artists as Glen Miller, Willie Nelson, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Liberace, Neil Diamond, Sinatra, Elvis, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Suzy Bogguss and Tiny Tim.
