Karleigh’s Crusade story

Karleigh’s Crusade story

Karleigh Bruner 2
Six-year-old Karleigh Bruner is truly a Crusade kid. She was born prematurely at only twenty-seven weeks. Her dad, Sergeant Chuck Bruner of the Highview Fire Department says Karleigh spent a total of nine-and-a-half weeks at Norton Suburban Hospital where all machines that kept his precious daughter alive came from Crusade funding.

Due to being born early Karleigh’s eyes hadn’t fully developed. She is legally blind because of a condition known as retinopathy of prematurity. Thanks in part to Crusade funding Karleigh has gone through the program at the Visually Impaired Preschool or VIPS. She is currently enrolled at the Kentucky School for the Blind, another agency supported by the Crusade.

Karleigh’s dad Chuck says he and Karleigh’s mom Crystal have collected for the Crusade for almost twenty years and they never once thought they’d need the Crusade’s help. Chuck says “It really brought home the point of the Crusade, to be there when families need it most.”
