Derby week means different things to different people.  For the students and teachers at McFerran Elementary School in Louisville it means a special day for a cause they hold dear.

And they’re off in McFerran’s annual WHAS Crusade for Children day.  It’s a cause that’s had a direct impact on many at the school.

Kim Mattingly, a teacher at McFerran, said “Each of us, lots of us anyway have personal connections.  I have family members who were premature and sick and they were helped with Crusade equipment.  Teachers have gotten scholarships.  They’ve gotten equipment for their classrooms.  The Crusade just helps kids.”

The McFerran event is one of dozens the Jefferson County Public Schools put on to raise money for the Crusade which is coming up June 6 – 7, 2009.

Here are some action shots from the big day.
